PURPOSE:To control a combustion state in an internal combustion engine so optimally in accord with driving conditions by controlling fuel supply and ignition timing so as to cause variations in a combustion parameter found by the detection of combustion pressure to become optimized. CONSTITUTION:A crank angle and an illustrated mean effective pressure at the time of producing the maximum combustion pressure of an engine 1 is found by each output of a combustion pressure sensor 12 and a crank angle sensor 15 at a control unit 20. Then, it is controlled to an air-fuel ratio at the rich side where a deviation in these combustion parameters shift at a low level. Also it is controlled to ignition timing where a standard deviation of the illustrated mean effective pressure comes to be minimal. With this constitution, even if there are variations in each individual engine 1, a stable combustion is always secured. In addition, any interference with optimum value control due to air-fuel ratio feedback control based on output of an exhaust sensor 17 and the combustion parameter is prevented from occurring, thus output and stability are made improvable as keeping an exhaust gas ingredient to less than the specified level. |
