PURPOSE: To attain picture encoding transmission by using a low bit rate by transmitting a picture from an encoding terminal station to a decoding terminal station by limiting an encoding bit rate by using encoding in which orthogonal transformation is combined with predictive encoding. CONSTITUTION: An encoding terminal station A records a processed analog picture signal s(t) through a modulating circuit MOD in a magnetic tape TP, and a decoding terminal station B transforms the information of the magnetic tape TP through a demodulating MOD<-1> into an electric signal. Then, the encoding terminal station A samples the analog picture signal s(t), and encodes this sampled group s(n). On the other hand, the decoding terminal station B transforms a signal supplied from a reproducing head C2 into a bit flow z'(j) by the demodulating circuit MOD<-1> , transforms it into a series of picture signal samples s'(n) by a code inverse transforming circuit 3, transforms it into an analog picture signal s'(t) by a digital/analog tran s former 4, and displays it on a monitor M in a state closer to the original picture signal s(t). Thus, a picture with satisfactory picture quality can be transmitted by using a relatively low bit rate. |
