PRODUCTION OF CHLOROFLUOROPROPANES

PURPOSE:To easily produce the subject compound by using heptachloropropane as a starting raw material and fluorinating the material with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a specific catalyst such as tantalum halide. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound having >=4 F atoms can be produced from heptachloropropane by fluorinating heptachloropropane with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a catalyst consisting of tantalum halide or oxide (especially preferably tantalum heptafluoride). The fluorination reaction is carried out in liquid phase under normal or positive pressure at 0-350 deg.C, preferably 50-250 deg.C. The heptachloropropane used as a raw material can be easily produced e.g. by the telomerization of chloroform with perchloroethylene.
