PURPOSE: To prevent a transfer medium from being damaged by a cleaning blade by locking the cleaning blade at a position separate from the transfer medium by a positioning device and controlling the release of locking and locking through a solenoid. CONSTITUTION: When a cleaning blade housing 27 is attached to a transfer belt cleaning station 13, a latch 120 is pressed and the locking by the latch is released. In such a state, a movable shaft 90 becomes the positioning device, so that the cleaning blade 21 is locked and is not projected. When the solenoid is energized, the shaft 90 is moved against the elastic force of a spring, the locking by the shaft 90 is released, and the blade 21 abuts on a transfer belt 19, whereby cleaning is performed. Therefore, as soon as the housing 27 is attached, the blade 21 is projected to come in contact with the belt 19 so as to prevent the blade 19 from being damaged.
