METHOD AND EQUIPMENT FOR IMPREGNATION AND CARBONIZATION

PURPOSE:To allow a molded porous carbon body to be impregnated with impregnation material and to carbonize it in a short time by heating a sample case in which the molded porous carbon body and impregnation material are introduced and immersing the molded body in the impregnation material at reduced pressure and thereafter allowing the molded body to be impregnated therewith at high pressure and carbonizing the impregnation material. CONSTITUTION:A container in which a molded porous carbon body 8 and impregnation material 9 are contained is placed in a sample case 11 and airtightly covered with a cover 12. Thereafter the container is introduced into a high- pressure vessel 25 and covers 16a, 16b are fitted and also both a pipeline 17 and the gas discharge port 14 of the case 11 are joined. The inside of the case 11 is exhausted by opening a stopping valve 18 and held at reduced pressure and the impregnation material 9 is melted by electrify a heater 24 and thereafter the valve 18 is closed and high-pressure inert gas is introduced into the case 11 via the vessel 25 through a pipeline 20 and the fine pores of the molded body 8 are impregnated with the impregnation material 9. Then the impregnation material 9 is slowly heated with the heater 24 and carbonized.
