摘要 PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of detection and to prevent the occurrence of contamination by measuring beforehand the presence or absence of a liquid to be analyzed and absorbance based on the shape of a vessel and by determining the content of sampling in accordance with the result of the measurement. CONSTITUTION:An absorbance measuring element 17 is so constructed as to apply light sequentially to a sample vessel 6 moved in rotation on a sampler element 5, while an optical fiber 19 leading the light from a light source 18 and a photodetector 20 are so constructed as to be movable in a pair in the direction to each vessel 6. A control element 21 receives as an input the detected quantity of a transmitted light and computes absorbance for each vessel 6. When the measured absorbance is 0, the vessel 6 is judged not to be present and sampling is skipped. When the absorbance is other than 0, the vessel 6 is judged to be set and the sampling is started. Then the amount of a downward stroke of a sampling arm 4 is determined in accordance with the absorbance based on the shape of the vessel 6 measured beforehand, and the arm 4 is controlled through an arm drive element 22. In this way, detection of a sample can be conducted in a non-contact manner.
