PURPOSE: To remarkably raise an operating velocity by modulating a flow of ions passing slots according to a charge pattern of an electrostatic latent image on a screen by a movement of a screen passing the slot, and forming the same image on an image forming member. CONSTITUTION: A charge pattern of an electrostatic image formed on a screen 50 is moved via a slot 62 of a member 61 by rotation of the screen 50. At this time, the image charge pattern on a surface of the screen 50 limits and controls a flow of ion passing holes 53 of the screen 50 and hence controls a flow of the ions to a dielectric surface 28 of a charge receptor 27 thereunder via an ion adherence slot 62. A lint or the screen 50 performs two functions of modulating a flow of the ion passing the holes 53 and buffering modulation information via an overall ion adherence period. The flow of the ions is modulated in response to a magnitude of a fringe electric field based on the charge pattern held on a photoconductive layer 51 of the screen 50. And, an ion adherence over the entire ion adherence zone simultaneously occurs. |
