PURPOSE:To remove the cracks and improve the service life against deterioration of the title ceramic by impregnating said cracks existing on the surface of a beta-alumina sintered form with a solution containing a component capable of giving beta-alumina followed by heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:The defects such as hairy cracks existing on the surface of a beta-alumina sintered form are impregnated, under reduced pressure and/or increased pressure action, with a liquid consisting of a solution or slurry containing a component capable of giving the same composition as said sintered form, followed by heat treatment to allow beta-alumina to be left at said defects, thus removing said cracks. |
