ANNEALING DEVICE AND METHOD

An annealing equipment and method is useful for selective annealing of the non-finned sections of finned exchanger tubing. The selective annealing is effected at high speed so that it can be incorporated in a continuous finned tube making process. The selective annealing of a section of a moving pipe is effected using a heating chamber mounted on a side which can be reciprocated in the direction of travel of the pipe. The chamber is clamped to the section of the pipe to be treated and travels with the pipe until the pipe section has been heated to the reguired temperature. The chamber is then unclamped and returned by the slide to its starting position.
