Grill heaters of this kind are usually arranged directly below the muffle ceiling of the baking oven or the like, a grill surface for the material (goods) to be grilled being arranged at a more or less large distance below the grill heater. Grill heaters of this kind are constructed as tubular heaters of round cross-section, approximately half the emitted heat energy being directed towards the muffle ceiling and thus being reflected imperfectly (with loss). According to the invention, the tubular form of the grill heater is flattened at the side facing away from the grill surface and has at the side facing the grill surface a larger cross-sectional length so that the constituent of heat rays directly directed onto the grill surface is increased considerably. <IMAGE>
