The present invention relates to the valeryl ester of acyclovir and pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof and their use in medical therapy particularly in the treatment or prophylaxis of viral infections. Also provided are processes for the preparation and pharmaceutical formulations containing the compounds according to the invention.
