PURPOSE:To offer an automatic focusing camera which can continuously take pictures at high speed and can provide high focusing accuracy by driving a lens during a mirror is faced upward, without carrying out subsequent focus detection, when defocus quantity is within a prescribed range, and performing subsequent release. CONSTITUTION:A focus detecting means 1 detects the focusing state of a photographing lens against an object, and outputs the defocus quantity DFO. A lens driving means 2 drives a focusing lens toward a focusing position based on the output detected by the focus detecting means 1. A deciding means 3 decides whether the defocus quantity DFO is within the prescribed range or not, and if so, a 1st control means 4 drives the lens during the mirror is faced upward, to carry out subsequent focus detection. Simultaneously the subsequent release is carried out. When the defocus quantity is decided to be out of the prescribed range, a 2nd control means 5 operates and inhibits subsequent release until the defocus quantity is decided to be within the range. |
