PURPOSE:To obtain a picture with excellent reproducibility and to attain proper filter processing by selecting the size of filters applied by a picture processing section to be different from main and subscanning directions and to be the matrix size in an intermediate tone processing section or over. CONSTITUTION:The size of filters applied by the picture processing section 30 to picture data of main and subscanning directions of a scanner is selected different from the main scanning direction and the subscanning direction and the size of the filters is selected to be equal to the matrix size in the intermediate tone processing sections 35-38 or larger to apply picture processing. The optimum value of the matrix size of the filters is changed by the sampling density. Thus, proper MTF (transmission characteristic) correction is applied to the data in the main and the subscanning directions and isotropic and uniform picture quality is obtained. |
