PURPOSE:To completely perform heat recovery of thermal energy in supplied fuel in an exhaust heat recovery device of an internal combustion engine, by introducing gas contained with oxygen into the passage of an exhaust gas system and performing combustion of unburned fuel. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine 1 is introduced to a heat collector 3 via a pipe 2a here performed with the heat recovery and then emitted to the atmosphere via a pipe 2. This exhaust gas, when circulatively flowing in the pipe 2a, is mixed with the atmosphere introduced via a valve 5 and branch pipe 4 or with oxygen in gas contained with oxygen, then unburned fuel is reacted with the oxygen and burned. Firing of this combustion can be performed at temperature of the exhaust gas itself by forming the pipe 2a to a short length further sufficiently applying thermal insulation, when necessary, an ignitor 6 is provided in the collector 3 to generate pilot firing. In this way, thermal energy of supplied fuel can be recovered. |
