PURPOSE:To prevent magnetic flux concentration and to suppress the generation of a negative peak known as edge noise in reproducing wavelength so as to improve reproducing characteristics by cutting off the edge part of a magnetic substrate on the side where the substrate comes into contact with a nonmagnetic insulating material. CONSTITUTION:The terminal part 21 of the exposed surface of the magnetic substrate 11 which serves commonly as a slider for a medium-facing surface 17 and the return path of the magnetic fluxes for a main magnetic pole 15 and consists of a ferrite member (magnetic member) such as, for example, Mn-Zn or Ni-Zn and the surface which comes into contact with the nonmagnetic material 12 partly embedded in the substrate 11 and consisting of glass, etc., is cut away to a V-groove shape inclusive of the end edge 22 of the corresponding material 11 by machining, etc., and is thereby formed to the shape lacking the edge part. This cut part is then subjected to, for example, the treatment for embedding the nonmagnetic insulating material and a treatment for flattening the same. The concentration of the magnetic fluxes to the edge part is, therefore, prevented and the generation of the negative peak 23 relating to the edge noise is decreased. The reproduction characteristic is improved in this way. |
