PURPOSE:To improve the dimensional accuracy of products and to stabilize operations by detecting the front tension of rolling mills and operating the peripheral speeds of rolling rolls in such a way as to attain target tension values. CONSTITUTION:An arithmetic storage device 112 operates and locks on the ratio between the rolling torque and rolling load under no tension in multistrands rolling of a stand 2 by using the outputs of an arithmetic device 82 for back tension and front tension of the stand 2 and the rolling torque of the stand 2 as well as the output of a rolling load meter 92. After the locking on, a switch 152 is turned off and a switch 162 is turned on; thereafter, the front tension of the stand 2 is detected with an arithmetic device 122 for front tension. The front tension is compared with the target tension standard between the stands 2-3, and the deviation thereof corrects the speed standard of the stand 2 through a tension cotroller 142, whereby the tension between the stands 2-3 is controlled to the target tension standard. |
