BONE CEMENT

The bone cement releases over a long period antibacterial substances which have a relatively wide organism spectrum and consists of a mixture of at least one antibacterial substance and a methacrylic-based plastic which can be cured by addition of a monomer. The antibacterial substance takes the form of a gyrase inhibitor from the group of fluoquinolones. Gyrase inhibitors which can be used are ofloxacins, pefloxacins, ciprofloxacins, enoxacins or CI 934. The plastic which can be cured takes the form of a copolymer powder supplemented with zirconium dioxide.
