PURPOSE:To make the gap of a liq. crystal cell uniform by forming films of a silane coupling agent on orientation controlling films on a pair of substrates, arranging transparent spacers, and sdhering the peripheral parts of the substrates to each other with an epoxy adhesive. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 3 and orientation controlling films 4 are formed on a upper substrate 1 and an under substrate 2 in order. A silane coupling agent 9 is applied to the films 4. At this time, the agent 9 is applied to the peripheral part of one of the substrates 1, 2 besides the film 4. The peripheral parts of the substrates 1, 2 are then adhered to each other with an epoxy adhesive 5 with transparent spacers 7 in-between, and the agent 9 on the films 4 is cross-linked after arranging spacers 8 at the display area to form a liq. crystal cell. Since the spacers are ditributed over the display area as well as the peripheral part, the gap of the liq. crystal cell is kept uniform. |
