A procedure for preparing an antiviral or antibacterial composition by means of enzymes, which involves dimerizing an enzyme selected from the group which consists of lysozyme and ribonuclease, and mixing the dimer obtained with a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle, said mixing being carried out at a temperature from 20 to 60 degree C. The composition obtained is useful for treating viral or bacterial infections such as herpes, infectious wounds, vaginal infections, otitis and the like.
