Cavity for total hip prosthesis, made up of the union of a plastic member and another member of metal or biocompatible material, in the general shape of a hollow hemisphere, with the plastic cavity 8 having a recess 10 in its base and an anteroinferior opening 11, depending on its positioning in the patient, allowing lubrication of the joint and elimination of any detritus, and on the outer part of the base it has a projection 12, this latter matching an orifice 2 in the central base of the metal cavity 1, and the overhangs 9 of the split match the free edges of the segmented metal cavity. The metal cavity has retaining lugs 6 on its outer surface, in such a way that they remain horizontal when they are being put into position, and therefore vertical relative to the load lines. <IMAGE>
