OPERATION METHOD OF ZINC-CHLORINE BATTERY

PURPOSE:To operate a zinc-chlorine battery with stable chlorine concentration by providing a valve for inhibiting circulation gas to pass a contactor and that for inhibiting cooled absorbing liquid to pass the contactor and automati cally switching the valves in accordance with the pressure of gas in the battery. CONSTITUTION:A gas bypass 10 and an automatically switched gas valve 9 are provided between a absorbing bath gas line 7 and a liquid bath gas line 8. Circulation gas is inhibited to pass a contactor 3 by opening the gas valve 9. A liquid bypass 12 and an automatically switched liquid valve 11 are provided between a chlorine absorbing liquid line 6 and a chlorine absorbing liquid bath 5. Chlorine absorbing liquid cooled by an external heat exchanger 13 is inhibited to pass the contactor 3 by opening the automatically switched liquid valve 11. The valves 9 and 11 are automatically switched by the pressure of gas in a zinc-chlorine battery when operated. The valves are switched based on the values of gas pressure which are properly set when the battery is charged and discharged. The chlorine concentration in electrolyte is thus stably maintained.
