A channel-plate is formed from a relatively large-dia bar of core glass with a glass casing tube fitting round it, small-dia glass fibres with core and casing being drawn from it. A plate of the desired dimensions is formed from a bundle of fibres, and a cnall-plate is formed by removal of the cores. Before formation of the fibres, the tube is formed into a casing fitting closely round the bar. The solid bar formed, comprising casing and bar is so processed as to give it a constant and relatively large dia from which the fibres are then drawn.
|
