PURPOSE:To provide minute irregularity of 10mum unit on the surface of a metal rolling use roller by calculating a difference between a clearance between the surface of the roll and a laser beam head which is detected by a detecting machine and a set value, and moving a sub-table so that a result of operation becomes zero. CONSTITUTION:A roll 1 is rotated, the surface of the roll 1 is irradiated by an ON/OFF laser beam emitted from an Ar laser oscillator, from a laser beam head 2, and also, by driving a motor of a moving device 8, a table 10 is moved in the axial direction of the roll 1. As the table 10 moves in the axial direction of the roll 1, a distance between the head 2 and the surface of the roll 1 becomes smaller. A magnetic scale of a detector 3 detects this distance, and by moving a sub-table 7 by an arithmetic unit 4 and a controller 5, the distance between the head 2 and the surface of the roller 1 is adjusted so as to always be kept constant. When the table 10 moves to one drum end from the drum center, the distance is adjusted in the same way in such a case, as well, and the distance between the head 2 and the surface of the roll 1 can be maintained so as to be always constant. |
