Very thin CRT using cathodes - each producing own electron beam assigned to one line of display

The tube casing (1) consists of a transparent glass front face (3) and side walls (6) with a glass rear panel. The tube is evacuated and has a total thickness of 5 cm. Along one long edge of the tube is a p.c.b. with control circuits (41,42) and a row of semiconductor cathodes (10). Each cathode produces a separate electron beam (14). Each beam can be deflected to a selected point on the phosphor coating (5) of the screen (3) by energising a particular electrode (7) on a board which is parallel to the rear panel. The assembly contains a caesium source (49) which increases cathode emission.
