The connector, which can be used in particular in the motor vehicle industry comprises a first insulating element 16 and a second insulating element 28 which are fitted with plug-in contacts, the first insulating element 16 being provided so as to rotate freely in a first hinge element while the second insulating element 28 has keying means 36 sliding on a second hinge element. The connector furthermore comprises an indexing ring 18 fitted with means 46 for elastic locking in a defined angular position on the first insulating element 16 and sliding keying means 40 intended to interact with complementary means of the first hinge element, the keying means and the complementary means being provided in order to bring the system comprising the ring 18 and the first insulating element 16 into an orientation in which the contacts of the two insulating elements 16, 28 are in mutual alignment, when the two insulating elements are moved closer to each other axially. <IMAGE>
