The present invention relates to a sheet-metal guiding device for a moving butt weld, consisting of an upper guide and a lower guide, each guide having, over half its width and approximately half its length, a machined face making a small angle of the order of 0.5 to 1 DEG with the plane face, so as to place opposite each other the plane face of one guide and the machined face of the other, which has the effect of defining two slots which guide the edges of the metal sheets, characterised in that at least one of the (upper or lower) guides is mounted elastically on the workpiece supporting it. <IMAGE>
