PURPOSE: To make the cost effect of a system to be a maximum by diagnosing the faults of a sensor and a device and deciding the order of the respective faults in accordance with the significance of the fault or the significance of the device. CONSTITUTION: A plant device 20 is monitored by a sensor 22 and the sensor 22 transmits data to a data collection computer 24 and preserves it in a disk preservation unit 26. The computer 24 periodically transmits data to a diagnosis computer 32 through MODEM 28 and 30 by an automatic mechanism or after it is polled. A computer 32 diagnoses the fault of the computer 24 and returns the fault whose priority is decided to the computer 24. The computer 24 displays a list on a display unit and the operator of the plant starts repairing. Thus, the priority of repair can synthetically be decided and the cost effect of the monitored system can be made the maximum since the system is complicated.
