NEW MATERIAL:An alpha-type human interleukin 1 polypeptide having an amino acid sequence expressed by formula I [a, b, c and d are 0 or 1; A is amino acid sequence expressed by formula II (W is Ser or Ala); B is amino acid sequence expressed by formula III (X is Asn or Asp; Y is Asp or Tyr); C is amino acid sequence expressed by formula IV] and a polypeptide of partially deficient substance thereof. USE:A lymphocytic activator. PREPARATION:For example, a cloned cDNA capable of coding a human interleukin 1 precursor is isolated by a well-known method and then digested with a restriction enzyme to cut out a cDMA region, which is then integrated into a character expression vector to form a recombinant gene. The resultant recombinant gene is subsequently inserted to transform a host, such as Escherichia coli, and the obtained transformant is cultured to afford the objective alpha-type human interleukin 1 polypeptides.
