PURPOSE: To easily impart a lacquer coating by components of a photographic material itself during processing by incorporating a water-soluble binder and a water-insoluble polymer in a specified weight ratio in the form of a mixture into a protective layer and dispersing the polymer as a separate phase in a granular shape in the binder. CONSTITUTION: A photographic material has a substrate, at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer formed on the substrate and a protective layer positioned farther from the substrate than the emulsion layer. The thickness of the protective layer is regulated to 1μm, a water-soluble binder and a water- insoluble polymer are incorporated in a weight ratio of 1:1 to 1:10 in the form of a mixture into the protective layer and the polymer is dispersed as a separate phase in a granular shape in the binder existing as a continuous phase. A lacquer coating produced from the permeation of water can be formed during phase inversion processing.
