PURPOSE: To improve preservability by adjusting the pH of the surface of an element. CONSTITUTION: The pH of the surface of an element especially on the silver halide side is adjusted to 4.0-5.3 by adjusting the pH of one or more layers, preferably a photosensitive emulsion layer before coating. This adjustment can be carried out with any proper acidic soln. and the pref. acid is nitric acid. preservability can be improved.
