A height-adjusting device having lockable telescopic supports (1) for the tarpaulin frame in a lorry has - a rack-type telescopic part (3), which can be displaced in a rectangular tube (2) and is formed from two flaps (4) connected at regular intervals by means of round bodies (5), - a gear (7), which can be brought into engagement with the racks (3) through an opening (6) in the rectangular tube (2) and can be operated by a hand crank (8), and - a position-retaining safety catch (9), the locking bolt (11) of which can be brought into engagement with the round bodies which in sections are designed as bushings (10). <IMAGE>
