The landfill installation comprises a self-supporting cupola roof (7) which covers over the waste materials and spans a, for example, conical depression (1) in the ground. The cupola roof (7) is configured as a wooden-network cupola roof and bears, in the vertex, a gas-extracting device (39) and, if appropriate, an irrigation device (41). The refuse materials are deposited in layers (25) which are separated from one another by sealing layers (21, 27). The sealing layers (21, 27) channel percolating water to a central percolating-water collecting device (23) and permit the deposited pollutants to be localised. The cupola roof (7) is reusable. <IMAGE>
