发明名称 PRODUCTION OF LIQUID CRYSTAL ELECTROOPTICAL DEVICE
摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of zigzag defects in a domain and to obtain uniform display and driving characteristics by arranging plural layers continuously in parallel with each other in multiple directions at the phase of the temp. higher than the temp. of the liquid crystal phase indicating a ferroelectric property, then cooling the layers to the liquid crystal phase indicating the ferroelectric property from the high-temp. phase. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal mixture is injected in an isotropic liquid state into cells and after all the liquid crystal materials are injected into the cells, an injection port is sealed at the time of injection. The cells are thereafter slowly cooled down to the liquid crystal phase state at which a ferroelectric liquid crystal is exhibited. The temp. is lowered from the liquid state to the phase of the temp. higher than the liquid crystal phase of the ferroelectric liquid crystal and the smectic layers begin to be formed simultaneously in this stage. The smectic layers are parallel with each other in a certain region at this time. The stripe patterns corresponding to the spiral pitch are observed when the temp. is further lowered down to the smectic C phase. The liquid crystal parts being to be freshly generated from the part of the liquid state and the microdomains are similarly formed when the temp. is further lowered. The entire part of the cells can be embeded with the microdomains. The generation of the defects which have optically serious effect such as zigzag defects is obviated and the uniform display characteristic and the uniform liquid crystal driving are enabled in this way.
