The invention relates to a device for producing fail-safe laser pulses/pulse trains, wherein a fast beam switch is arranged in series with the fail-safe beam switch and the fail-safe beam switch is controlled using an auxiliary device which monitors the desired laser pulses/pulse train, and thus makes it possible to produce laser pulses in the kHz or MHz band.
