<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the title water-absorbing sheet capable of absorbing the water separated from food or the various kinds of water by depositing cold- water-soluble natural acidic polysaccharides, chitosan, agar, or gelatin on at least one surface of a porous base material and/or its porous part. CONSTITUTION:Cold water-insoluble natural acidic polysaccharides, (e.g., pectin), chitosan, agar, or gelatin are deposited on at least one surface and/or the porous part of a porous base material such as paper, nonwoven fabric, woven fabric, and foamed plastic sheet. The amt. of the material to be deposited is controlled to 10-1000g/m<2> on an absolute dry basis, and the water content is preferably controlled to <=30%. The water-absorbing sheet is rich in water absorptivity, the sheet is not remarkably swollen after absorbing water, and the sheet is insoluble in cold water. When foodstuffs are placed on the sheet and then removed, the sheet does not stick to the foodstuffs, and no problems are caused even if the sheet sticks to the foodstuffs because the sheet is edible. Consequently, the sheet can be used for absorbing the water separated from food and various kinds of water.</p> |
