METHOD OF EFFECTING ENGINE BRAKE OF MULTI-CYLINDER INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND DEVICE THEREFOR

PURPOSE:To aim at enhancing the safety by effecting engine brake in a condition in which an exhaust valve provided in an engine cylinder head part is closed. CONSTITUTION:A variable lift mechanism 1 is disposed between an exhaust valve 1 in an engine cylinder head part and a cam 2 for opening and closing the exhaust valve 1. The variable lift mechanism 3 is actuated when engine brake is required, and accordingly, the opening and closing operation of the exhaust valve 1 is stopped so as to be closed. With this arrangement, the braking operation is enhanced, thereby it is possible to enhance the safety during descent on a long slope or the like.
