Two coated thin metal sheets to be joined together by laser welding rest against each other with different radii of curvature in the joining area along the weld seam and are at a distance from one another on either side of the weld seam. In this way, so-called degassing chambers are formed for absorbing the gaseous coating substances forming during the welding operation.
