PURPOSE:To form a superhigh-speed packet exchange by providing an optical buffer memory to which an optical delay line, the delay time of which is an integer multiple as long as the minimum unit length of packet signals, is coupled in a loop by means of an optical coupler. CONSTITUTION:Packet signals inputted to variable-wavelength electricity/light converters 101 and 102 become optical signals having prescribed wavelengths and are inputted to an optical switch 103. A part of the output of the switch 103 is made incident to variable-wavelength filters 108 and 109 through optical couplers 106 and 107 and the other part is made incident to optical fiber loops 104 and 105. The optical signals made incident to the optical fiber loops 104 and 105 are again made incident to the optical coupler 106 after the lapse of the unit time length DELTAT of the packet signals and part of the optical signals is made incident to the filters 108 and 109. The other part of the optical signals is made incident to the fiber loops 104 and 105 again. The filters 108 and 109 select optical packet signals having a prescribed wavelength only from the optical packet signals made incident to the filters and transmit the selected signals to light/electricity converters 110 and 111. |
