The invention concerns a process for producing an aqueous solution of potassium bicarbonate. According to the process, an aqueous solution of a suitable potassium compound is carbonated, whereupon the aqueous phase that contains potassium bicarbonate is separated. According to the invention, potassium chloride is used as the starting compound, and the carbonation is performed by liquid extraction by contacting the aqueous solution of potassium chloride with an organic solvent, immiscible with water, which contains the reaction product of an organic amine and carbon dioxide. Potassium bicarbonate is left in solution, whereby some potassium carbonate is also formed. The aqueous solution prepared according to the invention is suitable for washing acid gases, in particular industrial exhaust gases.
|
