PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity for using a particularly large weight and large size further expensive ballast in the outside of a lamp, by accommodating a resistor ballast with a luminous tube in an outer tube. CONSTITUTION:If voltage is applied, a glow discharge is started between one main electrode 2a and starting auxiliary electrode 3 and soon transferred to an arc discharge between main electrodes 2a, 2b to stably turn on a lamp. Further at lighting, a series circuit is constituted by an incandescent filament ballast 10 and luminous tube 1, and this ballast 10 performs suppressing action of current control, that is, functions as a ballast, accordingly, the necessity for using a particular ballast, that is, the ballast of large weight and large size externally of the lamp can be eliminated, and only the cost of equipment is required to about an equal extent to an incandescent lamp. Especially if a base 18 is formed suitably for an incandescent lamp socket, the lamp can be replaced with an incandescent lamp and equipped to an existing incandescent lamp equipment, here luminous efficiency is excellent, and a number of lamps in use can be decreased to obtain a large effect of power saving. |
