PURPOSE: To operate with a simple means by storing a sleeve surrounding a housing in the cylindrical hole of a clutch ring and joining frictionally with a cylindrical hole by a pressure load to the gap of a housing outer periphery surface by a pressure medium. CONSTITUTION: In the outer periphery surface 10 of a housing, a thin sleeve 8 whose both ends 15 are closed by welding is arranged and a gap 9 is formed between the outer periphery surface 10 and the sleeve. The outer periphery surface 11 of this sleeve 8 is stored in the cylindrical hole 12 of the clutch ring 13 through the bearings 16 of both ends. When the pressure of the pressure medium such as glycerin is not loaded in the gap 9, a fluid friction clutch 1 is rotated relatively and freely for the clutch ring 13 through the bearing 16 and when the pressure load is increased, the outer periphery surface 11 of the sleeve 8 is combined frictionally with the inner wall of the cylindrical hole 12 and the torque transmission is carried out between the fluid friction clutch 1 and the clutch ring 13. Thus, the required space of a switching mechanism may be slight and the operation means can be simplified.
