PURPOSE:To fix the cutting position, to prevent the lack of uniformity of cutting and to improve the connection quantity of the post-stage by giving an initial flow, based on a theory of a stress rupture method and executing the cutting. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber A is held surely in the air in a horizontal state by the upper and the lower clamp members 4a, 4b, and in a process in which a flawing cutting edge 5 moves linearly by a slide mechanism, an initial flaw is given to the optical fiber A. Thereafter, a pillow 7 descends and gives bending stress to the optical fiber A and cuts the optical fiber A. In that case, an interlock plate 14 is provided so that the pillow 7 does not come into contact with the flawing cutting edge 5, and also, a lever 12 for opening the clamp members 4a, 4b of the optical fiber by interlocking with the descent of the pillow 7 so that two opposed end faces do not come into contact with each other after the optical fiber A has been cut. In such a way, with respect to not only a multicore optical fiber but also a single core optical fiber, cutting can be realized with high accuracy, and not only the optical fiber can be connected at a low loss, but also high reproducibility can be maintained at the time of measuring the optical fiber, as well, and the workability of high efficiency can be obtained. |
