PURPOSE: To enhance the ion exchange capacity of a polycrystalline titanosilicate by bringing titanosilicate, such as zeolite β, Z, SM-5 or the like into contact with an aq. alkaline soln. regulated to a pH 7 to 10. CONSTITUTION: The titanosilicate is brought into contact with the aq. alkaline soln. of pH 7 to 10 to improve the ion exchange capacity of the titanosilicate without increasing its acid activity. The pH of the aq. alkaline soln. is preferably regulated to 8 to 9.5. The more specific examples of the titanosilicate include zeolite β, ZSM-5, ZSM-5/ZSM-11 intermediate, ZSM-11, ZSM-12 or the like. More specifically, titanium is inserted into the skeleton of silicate to form the titanosilicate, which is then brought into contact with the aq. alkaline soln. of pH 8 to 9.5. |
