<p>PURPOSE:To enable fine information input at low cost by using the display device which indicates a ferroelectric liquid crystal characteristic and using a pressure sensing device which uses this liquid crystal as an input function. CONSTITUTION:Transparent conductive films are formed on glass substrates 1 and 2 which have SiO2 thin films, electrodes are then formed on straight lines, and wiring is printed at end parts. The substrate 1 is coated with polyimide resin to form an orienting film for the liquid crystal and a thin flaw is made in a constant direction. Then the substrates 1 and 2 are adhered across spacers with an adhesive 3, the ferroelectric liquid crystal is injected between the substrates, and then an IC 4 is mounted. In this constitution, a voltage is applied between the electrodes of the substrates 1 and 2 to change the long- axis directions of liquid crystal molecules, thereby displaying an image plane. After writing is performed several time with the driving signal, the position of external pressure is detected from a potential difference generated with the pressure which is applied from outside the substrates. Consequently, a display electrode and an input electrode are the same, so the fine information input is performed at low cost without any error.</p> |
