It is well known in mink farming that when littering in April-May there are many losses among young animals, which are born outside on the cage netting base instead of inside in the connected breeding boxes, or which are thrown out on to the cage netting base due to the effect of sudden noises occurring. These unfortunate young animals will inevitably die, if they are not rapidly placed in a heated incubator for resuscitation and then rapidly returned to their respective mothers in the various cages. This has hitherto required an extensive traffic between the cages and a central incubator, but the invention specifies the use of a small, individually portable incubator 2, which can only accommodate a few young animals or broods, but which can on the other hand be used very effectively in order to achieve high reliability in the distribution of collected young, an optimum brief time span between collecting of the young and return of the young animals, and a minimising of the movements of individual staff along the cages, which also minimises the risk of unwanted noise. <IMAGE>
