PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium excellent in the balance between initial properties and storage stability by using a metal-containing indoaniline compound of a specified formula. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium in which recording is performed by irradiating a recording layer containing a colorant supported by a base with focused laser beams which can give a thermal change to the colorant to form a partial change on said recording layer, and the reproduction is performed by selecting this changed area, wherein said colorant is a metal-containing indoaniline compound of the formula [wherein M is a metallic atom of Group VIII, Ib, IIb, IIIb, IVa, Va, VIa or VIIa, its halide or its oxide; the rings A-F may have substituents, and K<1>, K<2> and K<3> are each a (substituted) amine residue; l, m and n are each 2 or 2; and p is 2, 3 or 4]. This indoaniline compound having PF6<-> as a counter ion has good initial properties, good storage stability, and a good balance among these properties, so that it has very excellent properties. |
