PURPOSE:To record high-quality images by producing a thermal recording material through providing an intermediate layer comprising a pigment having a specified oil absorption and a binder on a support by blade coating, and providing a thermal recording layer thereon. CONSTITUTION:A coating liquid is prepared which comprises a pigment having an oil absorption according to JIS-K-5101 of at least 80cc/100g and a binder, with a binder content of 5-16wt.% and a solids content of 35-55wt.%. The coating liquid is applied to a support by blade coating, and is dried to form an intermediate layer. Separately, a coating liquid comprising a colorless or light- colored basic dye and an inorganic or organic acidic substance as main constituents is prepared, is applied to the intermediate layer, and is dried to provide a thermal recording layer, thereby obtaining a thermal recording material. The pigment having the oil absorption of at least 80cc/100g may be, for example, calcined clay, aluminum oxide or titanium oxide. |
