A domestic coffee machine has in a housing a cold-water receptacle and a continuous-flow water heater with rising pipe to an overflow, from the outlet of which the hot water flows down into the removable coffee jug via a removable filter. The overflow (18) is linked to the housing to be pivotable upwards out of the horizontal and, according to the invention, has an additional conduit (32) which opens out above the cold-water receptacle (12) and whose inlet (36) is located upstream of the outlet (20), so that, in the pivoted-up position of the overflow (18), hot water and steam, which are still produced by residual heat of the switched-off heater, flow back to the cold-water receptacle through the additional conduit (32) and cannot escape from the outlet (20) and harm the user. <IMAGE>
