A blocking-off device for gaseous medium can be adjusted by an actuating device. In order to be able to design the blocking-off device with joints, it is proposed that the blocking-off element is a spiral strip 21 which, in the blocking-off state, lies in a plane A-A and, in the open state, has a helical path along the spiral axis 23. The blocking-off element is axially supported in the region of the largest strip winding and is acted upon at its centre by the actuating device 25 (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
