An intake air filter has a canister-shaped housing, which comprises a housing upper section, a housing lower section and an intermediate section containing a replaceable filter element. In order to facilitate replacement of the filter element even in very restricted spaces, the housing upper section and the housing lower section are connected, positionally fixed at a distance from one another, whilst the intermediate section can be displaced so far on the lower section that the filter element can be removed.
